Delphi

Published at:February9,2024Hours:19:23

Have you ever tried navigating the rushing streets of Kathmandu? Even the most sure-footed humans find themselves overwhelmed by the threat of collision. It was on such a street that we first discovered Delphi. We would have missed her, had our eyes not accidentally caught her heartrending dance of uncertainty at the street's edge, moving forward tentatively only to quickly retreat.

In a city where crossing the road is a heart-pounding adventure - where motorcycles emerge without warning and cars weave with startling unpredictability - there she was, attempting the impossible: trying to cross while unable to see a thing. The most remarkable part wasn't just that she had survived until we found her. Somehow, she had maintained such a gentle heart despite the darkness that surrounded her.

When we spoke to her, she turned toward our voices and did something that made our hearts melt. She extended her paw in the air and reached out. Today, in the safety of our care center, Delphi is writing a new chapter in her extraordinary tale. The veterinary ophthalmologist believes she has something called pannus- this is her working diagnosis. Pannus is an inflammatory condition that can be amenable to certain medications. We have begun a course of eyedrops in an effort to try and restore at least some of her vision, if possible. After everything she has been through, she deserves this chance.

Delphi is beginning to map her world anew, using her nose like a compass and her ears like radar. She navigates our walking trails with increasing confidence, as if she's slowly unlocking the secrets of a world without light. Where once she faced the terrifying chaos of the streets, she now finds gentle hands and soft beds, proving that sometimes the greatest miracles come in the form of simply being safe and loved.

Every day brings new small victories - a successfully navigated corner, a treat found without guidance, a tail wagged in recognition of a familiar voice. And while we cannot say for certain whether her eyes will ever see the light again, we can promise her this: she will never again have to face the darkness alone. In a corner of Kathmandu where hope and healing intertwine every day, Delphi has found a safe haven.

With your support, we will fight to give her the chance she has always deserved.
